Liners and Layers and Lilac and Silver

February 9th, 2010

This is a wedding invitation in progress. I am so in love with the colors. They make me so happy that I had to stop what I’m doing to take this photo and share it with you right now.

Shimmery silver envelopes lined with a sheer silvery paper with swirls of white dots. Gorgeous. A lilac, lavender, palest purple layer and then more of the sheer silvery paper to use as a band to hold the invitation set together. I’ll add a photo of the finished wedding invitation set when it’s all assembled to show you how it all looks.

Don’t you just love this combination?

A Birthday Party

January 7th, 2010

I’m invited to a girl’s only birthday party. I really love this idea. The birthday girl herself invited a small group of us over to her house in the evening from 8 to 10. So sweet. She’s not making too big of a deal of her big birthday, but she’s definitely celebrating!

My husband’s Grandma Ellen always did exactly the same thing. She’d bake herself one of her fabulous cakes and invite friends over to celebrate. So much better than just ignoring your special day or hoping that others take care of the planning for you. Birthday parties are fun and shouldn’t be only for children!

My friend has requested no gifts, but since it’s the first time I’m going to her home, and it is her birthday, I’d like to bring a little something. I decided that some handmade chocolates from the chocolate shop in my town are the perfect little something. Hope she loves the little indulgence.

PS. I didn’t bake that gorgeous chocolate cake. My friend Linda did. And it was as delicious as it looks!

More about the Mini Valentine’s Day Notes

The packaging is adorable, if I do say so myself.

These little mini cards are just right and back in stock just in time! I’ve been busy all day today updating the site. I think things are shaping up nicely!

Valentine’s Mini Cards

January 5th, 2010

They’re back in stock! These little cuties are perfect for your kids to hand out to their friends and for you to drop on coworkers desks. They make the perfect little love notes for to drop in someone’s briefcase or lunch box. And some people use them as gift tags too. Love them!

Party Invitation Aqua + Brown

January 4th, 2010

I just sent out the first party invitation of this year!

The customer liked the invitation sample above in peachy pink and grassy green but wanted it to match their colors which are aqua and brown. Beautiful color combination! I think this turned out great. So cute how we did the return address label too. Instead of using the address they chose to put the event information on it instead. Adorable idea!

Pretty Program for a Bat Mitzvah

December 10th, 2009

Esther’s mom wanted a simple program. Nothing too fancy or too over the top. But I still wanted it to be special enough for the very special occasion.

This program perfectly complements the invitation that I designed for Esther’s Bat. I used the pretty aqua blue and orange and her custom monogram, but added text in a charcoal gray so that it is easy to read. I also changed her name to a casually elegant type which is more appropriate for a service than the funky way it was done on the invitations. The icing on the cake is the shimmery metallic paper that I had these printed on. The texture and the shimmer added exactly the right extra layer of specialness, fun and pretty that make these fabulous!

Holiday Photo Card

December 3rd, 2009

Usually I design photo cards with family pictures, but I just received an order for something a little bit different and I think it’s so cool.

The design is very simple, it came from them and I think it’s just right for them. But I thought it needed a little something extra. So I rounded the corners. It’s a surprise! I hope they like it…

The Details

November 24th, 2009

For my birthday this year I visited my sister and her family in California. I love photography and was showing my nephews how to take pictures. One of them took this. So although it may not be the best picture of me, it is one of my favorites.

1. My hair is blonde, but I highlight it anyway. I like it blonder.
2. I love wearing high heels. But I walk funny in them and they hurt my feet. But I love them anyway.
3. I can figure out how to do pretty much anything.
4. Samantha says I’m very self-sufficient. I am. I love that about me.
5. I get lost all the time. I randomly take wrong turns. Or I forget how to go somewhere I’ve gone before. It’s pretty bad, but it’s also pretty funny.
6. I love a good laugh way more than a good cry.
7. I’m a little bit of a health freak.
8. I love to run, but it hurts my toe too much.
9. I’m signing up to run my first half marathon anyway!
10. I never get it all done. I always think I can do more than I can. I never realize how long it really takes.
11. I love to celebrate things. I’m pretty good at it.
12. I love to wear dresses.
13. I love to have a glass of wine and cook dinner. It’s so peaceful and creative for me.
14. I love my family so very much. There is nothing I love more than spending time with them and laughing a lot. Pure happiness.
15. I never got over it.
16. I love what I do. I love it more every day.
17. I accidentally deleted this list and had to start over.
18. I believe that we can always make it better. It’s never too late.
19. I have to check my email. All the time. I wish I didn’t.
20. I’d love to paint more. I think I will.
21. I like everything to be neat and clean. I feel uncomfortable when things are messy. But when I’m working I need everything out in front of me.
22. I love children and I don’t love pets. It’s funny that I only have two kids, but I have four pets!
23. I love tea. I don’t like coffee. Usually.
24. I spend three weeks at the ocean every summer. And some summers I never go into the ocean even once. I don’t like it to be too cold.
25. Most of the time I’m a pretty happy person. I feel very lucky about that.

How Many Invitations Do You Need?

November 17th, 2009

Before you place your order for invitations you need to make a pretty solid guest list. Here’s a guideline of who to consider inviting. Of course you don’t have to invite everyone that falls into these categories, and most likely you won’t. The capacity of the room needs to be factored in as well as your budget and style. Are you hoping to have a lot of people or will this be a more intimate event. But the following is a pretty good checklist to get you started:

  • All the close family you want to invite on the list? Good.
  • How about extended family?
  • Now do the same thing with friends. Close friends, then the next group of friends.
  • If this is a mitzvah check your child’s list too. School friends, neighborhood buddies, religious school friends, teammates, camp friends all will probably need to be considered as well.
  • Anyone from work that you’d like to include?
  • Anyone that you’d like to invite a guest of their choosing? For example: Ms. Evy Jacob and Guest
Once you have a pretty good idea of who you’re inviting, think about how many invitations this will mean. Not every single person will get a separate invitation. Husbands and wives will usually receive one invitation for both of them, families will often get only one invitation, you get the idea. Now you know how many invitations you need.
But to be really sure that you’ll have enough invitations, please order extras. There is always someone that you forgot to put on the list no matter how carefully you make it. Believe me. This happens all the time. Then there’s the B list. You know, the people you would invite if there were no budget or room constraints to deal with. These are the guests who will receive invitations if some replies come back as regrets.
So how many extra invitations should you order? A good rule of thumb is 10% or 15% extra for a smaller list of say 100 invitations. So if you need 100 invitations order 110 or 115. For a larger list it’s probably a good idea to order at least 25 extra invitations.
I know that everyone is trying to stay within a budget and it seems wasteful to order extra invitations, but I have never heard anyone say that they were sorry they did this, as a matter of fact, people often wish they had ordered even more. And one more thing… keep at least one for yourself as a keepsake from the celebration.
